Entertaiment is any activity or event that is designed to provide pleasure, amusement, or recreation. This may be in the form of watching movies, playing games, listening to music, going to concerts, socializing with friends, etc. Entertainment is usually meant to divert attention from mundane realities and give people a break from their usual responsibilities. The word comes from the Medieval Latin intertenere, based on the prefix inter meaning “inside” and tenere which is derived from the Indo-European root for tense or stretched.
Entertainment has the ability to be adapted to any scale and can be as simple as an individual selecting their own private entertainment from the vast array of available options; or as elaborate as a banquet or performance intended for thousands.
